Obituary
Betty Lou Eberhard, 72, of Cedar Falls, formerly of West Burlington and Burlington, died at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. Born Jan. 16, 1935, in Sac City, she was the daughter of Fred Alvin and Marjorie Maxine Longman Hass. On July 20, 1957, she married Julius Ralph Eberhard in Sac City. He died Dec. 16, 1990. She received her two-year degree from Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Neb., and her bachelor's degree in education from Iowa Wesleyan in Mount Pleasant. She was an elementary teacher for 39 years, first at Fort Madison Public Schools and then for 37 years at Corse School in the Burlington Community School District, retiring June 5, 1995. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Mariners. She served as a church elder for four years and was a past deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Circle leader. She also was a member of B.P.W., General Federated Women, B.E.A., I.S.E.A., N.E.A, I.R.A., Retired School Teachers Association and Evening Needlework group within Federated Women. Survivors include two daughters, Lola Eberhard of Burlington and Donna Eberhard of Phoenix; one son, Barry Eberhard of Waterloo; one grandson; two sisters, Shirley Frickson of Fairfax, Minn. and Peggy Niles of Sac City; two brothers, James Hass of Denver and Russell Hass of Sac City; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. this evening in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Eberhard will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Salzmann officiating. Private family committal service will be in the Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Foundation of B.P.W.-Iowa and First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund.
