Major Bethany Marilyn Hutchings Eames, 76, of Wever, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born on Feb. 26, 1931, in Lansing, Mich., she was the daughter of Claude and Sylvia Bushnell Hutchings. On Nov. 21, 1966, she married Fredrick Harris Eames in Mason, Mich. Mrs. Eames earned two master's degrees in Christian Counseling and Christian Education. She was the first female Lieutenant Governor of Iowa Kiwanis Division. She enjoyed playing in the string band at Salvation Army, Southern gospel misic, especially Gaither Homecomings. She was a member of Salvation Army Church. Survivors include her husband, Major Fredrick Eames of Wever; three sons, Major Dale L. Hale and his wire Sharon of Bismarck, N.D., Major Mickey Hale and his wife Charlene of Decatur, Ill., W. Scott Hale and his wife Carol of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Evelyn Hutchings of Rockford, Ill., Major C. Ardena Faundez and her husband Hugo of Berwyn, Ill., eleven grandchildren, Carrie Lynn Wagner, Philip Gregory Hale, Shanon Hale, Tammy Hale, Jon Hale, Michael Fredrick Chavez, John Hale, Jason Hale, Melissa Leonard, Daniel Brady, Joseph Brady; fifteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jack Hale; one granddaughter, Christina Joy Hale; one brother, Weldon Hutchings; and two sisters, Sharon Cornell and Donalee Densmore. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Eames will be at 1 p.m. Monday, at Prugh's Chapel with the Rev. Captain Allen Otto officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Salvation Army and Denmark Fire Department.
