Mrs. Ernestene A. Duncan, 82, of Burlington died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Burlington Care Center.
Born October 27, 1933 in Wedgeworth, Alabama, she was the daughter of Ernest and Kerma (Merriweather) McCruter. On July 20, 1953 she married Malcom John Duncan Jr. in Mansfield, Ohio. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2004.
Mrs. Duncan attended Alabama State University. She was a retired US Postal Service clerk, working from 1965 - 1995, starting in Mansfield, Ohio and retiring from the Burlington Post Office.
Mrs. Duncan was a member of Union Baptist Church and volunteered at the hospital for many years. She was an avid reader, appreciated flowers, and enjoyed travelling to Germany and Hawaii.
Survivors include her children, Malcom John Duncan III and Ernest L. Duncan both of Burlington, David L. Duncan of Los Angeles, California, Patrice E. Legler of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Robert Duncan of Iowa City; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Clarence McCruter of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
The funeral service for Mrs. Duncan will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 10th, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Lawrence Manson officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
