Robert Lee Allen, 56, of Burlington, died at 12:12 PM Thursday, August 25, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born July 24, 1949, in Chicago, IL he was the son of Harry Augustus and Nellie Elizabeth Smalley Smith Allen. He married Kathy L. Stogdill on May 25, 1968, in Burlington. Mr. Allen was a Custodial Engineer at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant/American Ordinance for 38 years. He was a 1967 graduate of Ft. Madison High School. He received his B.A. in theology and bible study. He also had a Pastoral License. He was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible and attended Genesis Fellowship Church. He was a member of the teamsters union and a past member of Duck's Unlimited and the Art Guild. He was an accomplished painter and wood carver and entered and placed at many art shows. He was a bow and arrow hunter. He enjoyed bicycling, gardening, photography, and reading and studying the bible. Survivors include his wife Kathy; two daughters, Jennifer Horn of West Burlington and Katie Allen of Burlington; one grand daughter, Liriel Wallace; one brother, Michael Smith of Denmark; one sister, Kaye Smith of Denmark; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one son, Sean. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM, Sunday, August 28, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Mr. Allen will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 29, at Genesis Fellowship Church with Pastors William Hornback and Chris Kelly officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
