Joe Dornberg, 80, of Burlington, Iowa, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his home. Born October 5, 1931 in Fort Madison, Iowa, he was the son of Abe and Sylvia. On November 26, 1955 he married Evelyn. He served in the U.S. Army and was in the 10th Mountain Division. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in psychology. He worked as a counselor for Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation in Davenport, Cedar Rapids and Burlington, but his first love was farming which he did off and on for most of his working years. He will be remembered and missed for his charismatic wit, cooking, gardening, bonsais, winemaking, his famous Thanksgiving Bar-B-Q ribs and his love of family and friends. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Barb (Ed) Overhake and Judy Leitch; granddaughters, Dana (Tim) Anderson, Erin (Cole) Roberts and Joanna Leitch; great grandson, Mason Roberts; great granddaughter, Alexis Roberts; and a brother, Maurice Dornberg. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Sam Dornberg. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 2nd from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Lunning Chapel. Family will not be present. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice or Caring Bridge. A funny story, special memory or photo that will serve as a lasting memory and tribute to the family would be appreciated.
