Clinton Dodds, Jr., 84, of Burlington, died at 11:37 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born September 23, 1921, in Palmyra, MO, he was the son of Clinton P. and Anna C. Happel Dodds. On November 18, 1944, he married Betty June Lipscomb in England, Ark. Mr. Dodds was a product and packaging engineer for Sheaffer Pen Corp. in Fort Madison for 25 years, and for Mobile Chemical in Rochester, Minn. for 15 years. He attended the University of Missouri for two years on a football scholarship. He was a World War II Navy veteran, where he served as a fighter pilot. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed building models of ships and planes. He was involved in Scouts and was instrumental in the building of the Hawkeye Trail. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patt Dodds of Martha's Vineyard, Mass., and Royce Ann Norton of Madison, Wis.; one son, Chris Dodds of Burlington; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. There will be no visitation. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated. The memorial service for Mr. Dodds will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Rigdon officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Asbury United Methodist Church. Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
