Mildred Mae Diewold, 85, of Burlington, and formerly of West Burlington, died at 9:49 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Great River Medical Center. Born January 9, 1924, in Oakville, she was the daughter of John F. and Lucy E. Herr Schultz. On October 1, 1949, she married Paul A. Diewold in Davenport. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1993. Mrs. Diewold was an Oakville High School graduate. She worked as a secretary for 16 years at National Bank. Mrs. Diewold was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and Eagles Women's Auxiliary. She was a Bears and Cubs fan, and enjoyed playing BINGO, reading, playing cards, traveling, cooking, and baking. Survivors include three daughters, Janet G. Diewold-Mehaffy of Burlington, Roberta L. Diewold-Weddle of Burlington, and Nancy Corman of Farmington; one son, John Diewold of West Burlington; six grandchildren, Paul DeWitt, James Dewitt, Jr., Edward Wasson, Dewey Wasson, Melody Brewer, and Dawn Corman; five great-grandchildren, Cameron DeWitt, Tara, Charles, Nancy and Nannnie; one sister, Madlynne R. Broeg of Burlington; and one nephew, Craig Broeg. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two grandchildren, Tamara and Charles. Friends may call from noon until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Diewold will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5th in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Gloria Friedrich will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Burlington Care Center.
