Thelma Lois Dickson, 78, of Burlington, was Promoted to Glory at her home on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at 5:07 a.m. Born on March 29, 1932, in Rochester, Minnesota, she was the daughter of William Henry and Hazel Mary Weaverling Young. She married Robert James Dickson on September 7, 1963, in Burlington, Iowa. He died on February 13, 1994. Thelma was an Officer in The Salvation Army for 10 years, commissioned in 1953, with her last appointment being in Burlington, IA. She was then the Executive Director of the YWCA for two years, the Director of the Des Moines County Home Caring Service for 22 ½ years, and the Bookkeeper at The Salvation Army for 12 years. She was a Soldier (member) of the Salvation Army as her church, and a long time member for the Altrusa Club. She loved music, including singing and playing the piano, organ, and accordion, her grandchildren, and the mission of The Salvation Army. She is survived by three daughters, Patty (Bill) Dearlove of Burlington, Robin (William) Rutledge of Chicago, Illinois, and Rebecca (Dale) Simmons of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Ronald (Teresa) Dickson of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Jeannette Linder and Eva Mae (Richard) Craig of Mason City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Heath (Tracy), Marcell, Chris, Mitchell, Brianne, and DJ; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend and caregiver, Fran Bohlken of Burlington, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Alfred, Melvin, Marvin, and Alvin, and one sister, Joyce. Funeral Services for Thelma Dickson will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. Captain Dale Simmons will officiate. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, with the family meeting friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in Prugh's Chapel. Interment will be in the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for The Salvation Army Burlington, Iowa Building Fund.
