Irene Dickeson, 92, of Wapello, Iowa and formerly of West Burlington, Iowa died at 7:55 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center. Born December 14, 1914 in Doniphan, Missouri, she was the daughter of Otto Earl and Hazel Marie Merrell Pope. On July 6, 1941 she married George Paul Dickeson in Macomb, Illinois. He died May 29, 1970. Mrs. Dickeson was a graduate of Carthage (Illinois) High School and St. Francis School of Nursing in Macomb. She and her husband moved to Burlington in 1941. She was a homemaker and also worked as a registered nurse at the hospital in I.A.A.P. during World War II and in the 1960s and 70s. Mrs. Dickeson was a 58-year member of West Burlington United Methodist Church where she was active in the church choir and Women's Society. She also was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and nurse at Camp L-Kee-Ta. Mrs. Dickeson enjoyed sewing, knitting, and gardening in her flowerbeds. She loved to cook, trying new recipes on her family. She enjoyed making holiday special. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou (Joe) Moore of Wapello, Iowa; two grandsons, Joseph (Lori) Moore of Burlington and Nick (Gabriella) Moore of Logansport, Indiana; four great grandchildren, Shanna, Tyler, Christopher and Abigail; and two nephews, Tom and Bob Boyd. Her husband, parents and one sister Helene preceded her in death.
