Betty Jean Denny, 77, of Burlington, died Sunday, April 29, 2007. Born April 26, 1930, in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Ware Leonard. On July 22, 1950, she married William Thomas Denny in Ottumwa. He died Feb. 9, 1999. Mrs. Denny was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where she was involved in Outreach Ministries. Survivors include four daughters, Pamela Jean Denny of Cedar Rapids, Rebecca Lynn Johnson and Barbara Sue Denny, both of Burlington, Peggy Lee Cecil of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; one son, James T. Denny of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Maxine Chickering and Dorothy Harshbarger, both of Ottumwa, and Ruth Ashworth of Rockford, IL.; and one brother, James W. Leonard of Ottumwa. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene. The funeral for Mrs. Denny will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Terry Vance officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First Church of the Nazarene and Great River Hospice.
