Quinto R. “Tony” Denato, 92, of Burlington, Iowa, died at West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa, Saturday, August 1, 2015.
He was born August 2, 1922 in Monroe, Iowa, the son of John and Lena Argenta Denato. Tony married Bonnie A. McCannon in Kahoka, Missouri, on September 27, 1941. She died January 9, 2005.
Tony worked as a welder and maintenance for Chicago Tramrail, Des Moines County, Murray Iron Works, IAAP, Sheaffer Pen Co. and Modern Welding. He served in India in the U.S. Army during WW II. Tony co-engineered the “tow bar” attachment device to get equipment across the Ledo Road to Berma. He was a member of the VFW. Tony was also a member of the Des Moines County Saddle Club, Louisa County Saddle Club and Trail Blazers. He was a self employed welder and blacksmith. Tony restored antique cars and tractors, farmed, enjoyed gardening, camping, “crappie” fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church.
Tony is survived by one daughter, Rhonda (Terry) Derr of Croton, Iowa: two sisters, Lena Kauzlarich of Des Moines, Iowa and Mary Fox of Joliet, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Toni, Michael & Andrew Denato, Jason Rice, Misty Denato, Jami Rice and Mickey Denato; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, one son, Randall Denato, two daughters, Antoinette Lynn Denato and Shauna Lu Denato, five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held in Prugh’s Chapel Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Chaplain Randy Gearhardt will officiate. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Prugh’s Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m until 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boystown, NE 68010.
