Ms. Joyce Lynn Davis, 66, of Walford and formerly of Burlington, died at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Born April 8, 1944, in Macomb, Illinois, she was the daughter of Lloyd "Jim" and Betty Zettle Wilson. Ms. Davis was a 1962 graduate of Industry High School in Industry, Illinois, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education at Western Illinois University. Ms. Davis served as a teacher and paraprofessional in the Burlington Community School District for 28 years before moving to the College Community School District in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 2009. She was the driver and chaperone for the Burlington Girls Softball team for 15 years. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, and recently joined the Shueyville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, reading, softball, and watching the Hawkeyes. Survivors include one daughter, Condra Davis Allred of Cedar Rapids; one son, Mark Davis of Denver, Colorado; two grandsons, Bennett Scott Allred and Wilson Nicholas Allred; and two sisters, Mary Jane Humphries of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Linda Zaske of Casa Grande, Arizona. Her son, Scott Edward Davis, and her parents preceded her in death. Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service for Ms. Davis will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 29th, in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Carver officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.
