Margaret L. Akey, 73, of Burlington, died at 4 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at her home. Born Sept. 16, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Roy H. and Ida Mae Ferrington Milton. On Jan. 16, 1947, she married Charles E. Akey in Monmouth, Ill. He died June 16, 1994. Mrs. Akey attended Burlington schools. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Christian bookstore, and a bus driver for Burlington School District. She was a member of Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene, where she served as treasurer of the church, had her local pastoral license, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Survivors include two sons, Milton Akey of Bridgeton, N.J., and Mike Akey of Burlington; two daughters, Deb Krieger and Peg Akey, both of Burlington; eight grandchildren; four great-grand- children; three sisters, Sharon Leeper of Burlington, Betty Mason of Forest City, and Shirley Canfield of Coralville; and one brother, Don Edwards of Fort Madison. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene. The funeral for Mrs. Akey will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Ronald Jewitt and Joe VanEst officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene.
