Robert D. Darnold, 69,of Ypsilanti, Mich., formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at his home. Born May 4, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of Dewey and Anna Johnson Darnold. He married Elizabeth Norman on Oct. 5, 1954, in Fort Wayne, Ind. Mr. Darnold served four years in the military, first in Korea in the 75th Division, and then in the 30th USAF Division at Selfridge Air Force Base. He worked as an assembler for NSK Co. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. He was an avid pool player. and worked with senior citizens teaching them to play pool. He also loved to play horseshoes, fish, and hunt. Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert Darnold of Ferndale, Mich.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Darnold-Atkinson of West Burlington and Donna Wise of Aurora, Ill.; two brothers, James Darnold of West Burlington and Harold Darnold of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Darnold will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Rose officiating. After the service, military rites will be conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Hospice of Washtenaw.
