Ava Allison Darnell, 90, of Burlington, died 1:42 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Bickford Cottage.
Born January 8, 1922, in Memphis, MO, she was the daughter of Etzle Vane and Stella Fern (Allen) Lough. She married Cyril Dean Darnell of Milton, IA on February 8, 1941 in Memphis, MO. He died October 6, 1991.
She was a 1940 graduate of Memphis High School. She served as a crossing guard for North Hill School from 1965-1966 at a time when it crossed over a very busy US Hwy 34.
Mrs. Darnell was a lifetime member of Scotland County Missouri Historical Society and the Iowa Pioneer Cemetery Association and former member of Scotland County Missouri Genealogical Society, Des Moines County Historical & Genealogical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution Stars and Stripes Chapter of Burlington and Daughters of Union Veterans of Civil War.
She enjoyed spending time at her home in the Ozarks and trips to the Colorado Rocky Mountains. She loved her family and doing family history, being on the river, dancing and classic country music as well as bluegrass.
Survivors include two sons; Ronald Dean (Judy) Darnell of Burlington and Michael Dean (Karen) Darnell of Davenport; one daughter, Dee Ann (Gerald) Hasenkamp of Longmont, CO; eight granddaughters; four grandsons; ten great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother in infancy, and her only sister, Neoma Jean Howell.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
