David Edward "Papa Dave" Dahlsten, 51, of Burlington died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born Aug. 28, 1955, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward Victor and Alice Margorie Dustman Dahlsten. He was previously married to Debra Jean Klein-Dahlsten. On Aug. 29, 2004, he married Kathryn Sue Sturms Graham in Burlington. Mr. Dahlsten was a maintenance foreman at The Baking Co. for 27 years. He was an organ donor. He was Methodist. He enjoyed pool tournaments, working on cars, doing house repairs, camping, fishing, riding his motorcycle, boating on the Mississippi River, and his wife's day care where the children called him "Papa Dave." Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Dahlsten of Burlington; four daughters, Tiffany Dahlsten, Heather Dahlsten, Christina Graham and Nichole Nichols, all of Burlington; four sons, Christopher Dahlsten, Jason Dahlsten, Randy Graham and Isaiah Graham, all of Burlington; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mary French of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Steven Dahlsten of Indianapolis, Ind.; his mother-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Dahlsten will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Sam Fratt officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
