Obituary

Burlington public safety commissioner Raymond E. Adams, 59, of 2919 Sunnyside, was dead on arrival at Burlington Medical Center at 7:03 p.m. Sunday, Nov 13. He suffered a heart attack at his home.
Adams was elected public safety commissioner in November of 1975 and was completing a 2-year term. He formerly owned and operated the Sombrero tavern, 863 Jefferson.
Born Sept. 12, 1918, in Davenport, he was the son of Earl and Bertha Haifly Adams. he married Ruth M. Nertlshofer Jan. 12, 1940 in Burlington. He was a member of the Elks club.
Surviving: The wife; son, Jerry, Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Pamela Rae) Vaupel, both of Burlington; four grandchildren; brother, Dale, Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. George (Irma) Manley, Burlington, Mrs. James (Betty) Gleason, Grand Island, Neb.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. John Catholic Church, Rev. Donald Redmond; Aspen Grove cemetery, Rosary, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Prugh's Chapel. A memorial has been established to the Heart Fund.
