Carl Edmund Courts, 90, formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died at his home in Yucca Valley, California, on Wednesday morning, January 9, 2013. Carl Edmund Courts was born June 25, 1922 In Burlington, Iowa. He was the son of Carl F. and Luella Moyer Courts. Raised on South 12th Street on South Hill he was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. After graduation he served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Following the war he moved to the Long Beach area of California. For many years he was a well known silversmith in Southern California. Guns, revolvers and silver saddles were among the pieces that he engraved. A Rifle given to the Shah of Iran, a Rifle given to the President of Mexico as a gift from JFK & pistol given to President Dwight Eisenhower were among items in his handiwork. Carl married Florence Young in 1949. That union ended in divorce. He married May Belle Boyd in 1982. Belle passed away in 1988 and is buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Later he married Ruby Laverne "Bunny' Addison. Bunny died September 6, 2011. He was preceded in death by two siblings, John R. Ebert of Burlington and Helen (Ebert) Smalling of Ames. He is survived by three nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services for Carl Edmond Courts will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Prugh's Chapel. Matt Smalling will officiate. Masonic rites will be conducted by Malta Lodge 318. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.
