Cleo C. Corley, 102, of Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Ill., formerly of Autumn Heights of Burlington, died Saturday evening, Jan. 1, 2000, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Born Nov. 9, 1897, in Avoca, Ark., he was the son of William David and Mary Ann Cotton Corley. On Aug. 1, 1921, he married Alice Hoyak in Brian, Texas. She died July 14, 1980. Mr. Corley was a carpenter for Carl A. Nelson Co. He served in the Army for nine years, and was a World War I Army veteran. He served in Troop I, 12th Calvary from 1918 to 1920. He attended Texas A&M University for five years in the architectural and mechanical program. He joined First Christian Church in Kansas City in 1916. He was a member of American Numismatic Association, Canadian Numismatic Association, Burlington Coin Club, Script Collectors Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 72 of Quincy, and was a lifetime member of Disabled Americna Veterans. Survivors include six daughters, Mary Ann Marasovich of Oceanside, Calif., Ruth Sappington of Macomb, Ill., Doris Mason of Quincy, Dorothy Riedl of Naperville, Ill., Lanell Corley of Tinley Park, Ill., and Gwyndolyn Barbagiovanni of Fort Madison; one son, Cleo Charles Corley, Jr. of Phoneix; 26 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one grandson, three sisters, and two brothers. Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. until the time of service today in Lunning Chapel. The funeral for Mr. Corley will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald Williams officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Illinois Veterans Home.
