Paul Cooke, 88, of Burlington, died at 11:02 PM Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born February 8, 1928, in Cedar Bluff, MS, he was the son of Oscar A. and Edna Hydrick Cooke. On October 30, 1948, he married Carolyn Quinn in St. Stephens, MO. She died on July 13, 2009.
Paul worked for thirty-five years as a salesman for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, retiring in 1990.
He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving during the Korean War from September 30, 1948 until January 2, 1950.
Paul was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #568. He was Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinal fan. Paul enjoyed watching TV, CNN and baseball, eating ice cream, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include one son, Mike (Sharon) Cooke of Burlington; one daughter, Janet (Robert) Daniels of Dover, OH; five grandchildren, Heather (Damon) Morrison, Joseph Gay, Jason (Alison) Cooke,Thomas Daniels, Ginny Daniels; five great-grandchildren, Brian Morrison, Kaitlyn Morrison, Emily Morrison, Katherine Cooke, Kelsey Cooke; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM to conclude the visitation.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Cooke will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2016, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League Detachment #616. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parrish Center following the burial.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
