Alfred G. "Al" Conor, 87, of Burlington, died at 11:46 a.m. Friday. October 2, 2009, at his home. Born April 13, 1922, in Burlington, he was the son of Wilbur V. and Mary E. Willey Conor. In June 1943, he married Donna Jean Chambers in Madison, WI. She died November 10, 1954. On November 15, 1958, he married Iris Marie Kupfer Hoschek in Burlington. She died March 15, 2009. Al worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant for 38 years. He retired in 1987. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, serving during World War II in the Public Theatre from 1942 until 1945. He received three Bronze stars. He was a past member of the VFW Post 9162, and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics and watching television. He also was an avid duck hunter and fisherman. Survivors include four sons, Gary Conor of Las Vegas, NV, Stephen Hoschek of Burlington, Jon (Melodie) Hoschek of West Burlington, and James Hoschek of Kansas City; three daughters, Sue (LeRoy) Miller of Las Vegas, NV, Linda (Roger) Stein of Atkins, and Sara (Tom) Rowan of Danville; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and one son. As per the request of Mr. Conor, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation has been accorded. The graveside memorial service withmilitary rites for Mr. Conor will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. Mike McCullough officiating. A memorial has been established for St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
