Obituary
David Wayne Conner, 72, of Burlington died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born October 30, 1944 in Hammond, IN, he was the son of Homer Wayne and Thea Magdalene (Dahl) Conner. On April 26, 1969 he married Patricia Flynn at St. Patrick Church in Burlington.
Mr. Conner was a purchasing agent at J.I. Case and at General Electric, retiring in 2004 after 37 years. He also worked at BL Robinson Company and was an associate at West Central School in Biggsville and a sub associate for the Burlington School District.
He was a 1962 graduate of Rock Island, Illinois high school and a 1967 graduate of Western Illinois University.
He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington, a longtime member of the YMCA and volunteered at Great River Medical Center and for the BHS Athletic Booster Club.
Mr. Conner was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, St. Louis Cardinals, Rock Island Rocks and Burlington Grayhound fan and any sport in which his family played. He enjoyed bike rides with his wife and yard work. His family always came first. He played on several slow pitch softball teams and YMCA basketball leagues. He coached Little League baseball and softball and YMCA/YWCA boys and girls basketball.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Conner of Burlington; one son, Brian (Tina) Conner; one daughter, Erin Conner; one sister, Janet (Gary) Cross of Clinton; six grandchildren, Lakreshia Ross, Anastasia Ross, Kelsi Conner, Tyler Conner, Hannah Porter, and Jeron Conner; two great granddaughters, Amariana and Aaliyah Chew and a nephew and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 24th, at Lunning Chapel. A time of sharing will be held before a Service of the Word at 6 p.m.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Conner will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 25th, at Concordia Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Roepke officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Concordia Lutheran Church and St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.
