Emmerich Adam, 78, of West Burlington, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2007, at University ofIowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born Dec. 5, 1928, in Sersekszollos, Hungary, he was the son of Johann and Kristina Hollenbach Adam. On March 11, 1950, he married Susanne Krahling in Bietigheim, Germany. He worked as a stone mason for 53 years. He was a member of the Brick Layers Union and Pioneer Cemetery Association. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and served on the church council and various other committees. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Emmerich (Sharon) Adam, Jr. of Burlington and John Adam of Ashland, Ore.; two daughters, Monika (Greg) Pickard of Round Lake, IL. and Carol (Don) Holtz of Island Lake, IL.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The memorial service for Mr. Adam will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Bethany Lutheran Church and Brain Tumor Cancer Research.
