MUSCATINE, Iowa - Juanita Arlo Colton, 95, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Premier Estates.
Private burial will take place in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus.
Juanita was born on April 6, 1920, in Kilborn, Illinois, one of eight children and the daughter of Wallie and Ethel Goben Summers. She married Frank Colton in 1951, in Burlington. He preceded her in death in 1961.
Her joy and passion in life was being an avid barber shopper, singing for many years with the Port City Pearl Chapter of the Sweet Adeline's International. Over the years her hobbies included decorating wedding cakes and she was always carrying a camera. And she always had the love of the Lord in her heart. She will be lovingly remembered as being her happiest singing.
Her careers included working at Mid-West Biscuit in Burlington, working as a line supervisor at the Iowa Ordinance Plant in Middletown, and working in her home as a printing business.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Linda Darr and husband, David, of Hillview, Illinois, Bonnie A. Travis-Cho and husband, Walter of Kealakekua, Hawaii, David Colton and wife, Peggy, of Ankeny, and Christine Barton and husband, Ron, of Clearwater, Florida; several grandchildren; and two brothers, Wilford Summers and wife, Laura, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kenneth Summers and wife, Roberta, of Woodland Park, Colorado.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Eileen LaRussa and Winifred Lyvers; and brothers, Richard, Wallie, and Everett Summers.
