Dolores Leopold Collins, 71, of 1434 West Ave., Burlington, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 1996, at her home. Born June 1, 1925, in Evanston, Ill., she was the daughter of Carl Starker and Dolores Bergere Leopold. She married John L. Collins on Nov. 19, 1947, in Burlington. Mrs. Collins was a graduate of Burlington High School and a 1947 graduate of Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis. She was a home-maker. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, the church choir for 20 years, Altar & Rosary Society, St. Theresa's Guild, Burlington Golf Club, New Crystal Lake Club, Hetta Gilbert and Burlington Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of the Fine Arts League for many years and served as chairwoman of the first Fine Arts Gala. She also was a member of the Historical Society, which she served as president and twice as first vice president, assisting in the operation of all museums, and was a long-time member of the board of directors. She led the transition of the Phelps House to a museum and was on the planning committee in the production of the Heritage Cookbook for the Sesquicentennial celebration of Burlington. Survivors include her husband; one son, John Leopold Collins of Bend, ore.; two sisters, Caryl Smith of Brighton and Anita Fredericks of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one granddaughter. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Collins will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Reilman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for American Cancer Society and Des Moines County Historical Society.
