Mrs. Katherine Collins, 88, of Burlington died at 11:36 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born February 10, 1925 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Paul W. and Anna May Moberg Richardson. On October 6, 1946 she married Lyle B. Collins in Burlington.
Mrs. Collins was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School where she played in the high school band. She worked first for Northwestern Bell and then came to Lunning Chapel where she was the desairologist, cosmetician and organist for 31 years. She then worked for the Burlington Community School District lunch programs at Sunnyside Elementary School, retiring in 2000.
Mrs. Collins was a lifetime member of West Hill United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for many years. For 15 years she knitted blankets, caps and booties for new borns at Great River Medical Center. She was a 50 year member of E.C. Blackmar Chapter of O.E.S. and was a mother advisor to Rainbow Girls.
Mrs. Collins was an avid Cubs fan, didn't miss a Hawkeye basketball or football game, loved to read and was an avid dog lover. She also loved playing dolls with all her granddaughters.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle B. Collins of Burlington; two sons, Craig (Carolyn Lewis) Collins of Coralville and Mark (Peggy) Collins of Burlington; one daughter, Chris (Wally) Menza of Tucson, Arizona; five granddaughters, Kassie, Erin, Caitlin, Heidi and Jordan; two great grandsons, Quincy and Kash; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Delbert, Art and Rolland Richardson.
Memorials have been established for Des Moines County Humane Society and Great River Hospice.
