Cecil Earl Collenbaugh, 91, of Burlington, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center in Burlington. Born October 8, 1918, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Clyde Coleman and Daisy Fern Calloway Collenbaugh. On April 21, 1946, he married Edith Marie Anderson in Burlington. She died October 21, 1994. Mr. Collenbaugh worked 14 years as a machine operator for General Electric. He also worked for Fullerton Lumber Co., the City of Burlington, and J.I. Case Co. He served in the military during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater as a truck driver. He was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church and lifetime member of the VFW. Survivors include one sister, Rachel Housman of Mediapolis; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. The funeral with military rites for Mr. Collenbaugh will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, with the Rev. Kirk Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington at a later date. The body will be cremated following the funeral. A memorial has been established for West Avenue Baptist Church.
