Obituary
Louis B. Coen, 90, of Burlington, died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Burlington Care Center. Born April 26, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Purrill and Mary Hurley Coen. On January 23, 1937, he married Virginia M. Springsteen in Burlington. She died January 18, 2009. He was an upholsterer for Bailey's Upholstery Shop on Maple Street. In 1970 he started as a maintenance man at Autumn Heights, and retired at the age of 66. He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. He was a skilled carpenter, and enjoyed yard work and spending time with his family. Survivors include two sons, Robert (Goldie) Coen of Burlington, and Thomas (Cathy) Coen of Clatskanie, OR; one daughter, Judith (James) Abrisz of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Homer) Horras of Willard, MO, and Kay (Lloyd) Buch of Fairfield, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lloyd Coen, and one daughter, Patricia Carman. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the family to receive friends following a 6:00 p.m. Rosary Service until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 25,2009, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Coen will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
