Virginia M. Coen, 88, of Burlington, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009, at the Burlington Care Center. Born September 6, 1920, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry and Bessie Farrington Springsteen. On January 23, 1937, she married Louis B. Coen in Burlington. Virginia had worked at Sylvania Electric for 18 years, Klein Hospital for two years, and also at the Suburban Club for five years. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, basketball, and especially spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband Louis; two sons, Robert (Goldie) Coen of Burlington, and Thomas (Kathy) Coen of Clatskanie, OR; one daughter, Judith (James) Abrisz of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry (Donna) Springsteen and Kenneth Springsteen, both of Burlington; four sisters, Helen Gantz of St. Louis, MO, Lois Eberhart of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Margie Reynolds of Sperry, IA, and Beverly (Richard) Dobson of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Patricia Carman, and five brothers, Chester, Harry, Richard, Dale and Delbert. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the family to receive friends following a 6:00 p.m. Rosary Service until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Coen will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for SS. John and Paul Catholic Church.
