Ruth Anderson Engberg Collins, 99, of Burlington, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa.
Born November 22, 1918 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the youngest of three children born to Clarence and Clara Swanson Anderson. On May 2, 1942, she married Donald R. Engberg. After his death in 1972, she married James S. Collins on September 1, 1973. He died in 1998.
Ruth was a 1936 graduate of Burlington High School and worked for over 40 years in the office at Chittenden and Eastman Company, retiring December 1, 1980, as Secretary to the President.
Ruth was a lifelong active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and pianist, member of Lutheran Church Women, Retired Fellowship, and chair of the funeral luncheon committee. She was also a member of King's Daughters (Suzanne Circle), Federated Women's Club and several bridge clubs.
Left to cherish her memory include son Robert (Mary) Engberg of Burlington and daughter Mary (Keith) Bloomquist of Marshalltown and stepsons Edd (Melanie) Collins of Gillette, Wyoming and David (Celine) Collins of Kansas City, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Anderson, sister Mildred Meth, and her two husbands.
The funeral service for Ruth will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 25 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2411 West Avenue, Burlington. Rev. Susanne Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 24 at Lunning Chapel.
