Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bonn, 82, widow of Chris Bonn, and for many years a resident of Burlington, died Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Witzleben, in Terre Haute, Ind. She made her home with her daughter since the death of her husband 26 years ago and had been in failing health for some time.
Her husband, in his time, was prominent in Burlington’s business and political life. For several years he served as a ward alderman. His business career embraced the operation of a prosperous ice business, proprietor of the Prospect House, a hotel on S. Main Street, and for a period he owned Bonn’s summer garden, situated at the angle of Sunnyside and Gnahn streets. He later had a summer garden in St. Louis.
Mrs. Bonn was a member of the Christian church and of the Hawkeye Natives.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Witzleben of Terre Haute, Indiana; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her mother, Mrs. Julia Jacoby of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Andrew of Burlington; and a brother, Harry Jacoby of Boulder, Col. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held in Prugh’s chapel, Thursday at 4 pm. Rev. WB Slater will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The body will arrive here early Thursday morning.
