George Paul Weik, 70, retired Burlington railroad engineer, passed away early this morning at his home, 1100 South Eighth street, victim of a heart ailment. Mr. Weik, resident of Des Moines county for 65 years, was accorded national honor last June when he went to New York, N.Y. to receive the Harriman safety award which was given the Burlingto railroad. Mr. Weik was chosen for this honor because of his record of never having had an accident. He was born in Lafayette, Ind., June 7, 1865, and had lived in Burlington for 47 years. He was married to Alma Falk Dec. 23, 1885 in Unionville, Mo. He was a member of the Lutheran faith, of the Woodmen of the World lodge, Burlington Railroad Veterans association and of the Burlington Relief. Surviving are his widow, one son, Dr. E.O. Weik, Burlington, and two daughters, Mrs. Paul Happ of Burlington and Mrs. John Vesper, Cedar Rapids, Ia. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lena Kaur and a brother, W.M. Weik, both of Burlington, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Alice Anderson, mother-in-law of Dr. Weik, was taken by death Dec. 31,1935. Funeral services will be held from the Burnet-Wallen funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. R.R. Belter,pastor of Bethany Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.
