Obituary

Mrs. Mary Wedertz, widow of the late Chas. F. Wedertz, passed away at 9:30 last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.W. Smith, 922 South Eighth street. The deceased, Mary Scheurs, was born in Butler county, Ohio, January 22, 1838, and with her parents came to Burlington in early childhood. On February 21, 1856, she was united in marriage to Charles F. Wedertz, who preceded her May 29, 1903. Although the deceased had passed her 81st birthday, she remained active and of a very cheerful disposition, only being ill five days before the peaceful departure. For a number of years after her husband's death she remained in the old homestead, but for the past eleven years she made her home with her only daughter, Lydia. The deceased was a pioneer resident and her many friends will keep her in sweet memory. She was ever of a kind, patient and loving disposition, and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Elizabeth Scheurs of Lenore, Idaho; one brother, Henry Scheurs of Des Moines, and the following children: Chas. F. Wedertz of this city, August H.of Jacksonville, Fla., William H. of Chicago, Louis E. of Manitowoc, Wis., and Mrs. J.W. Smith of this city; also seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral announcements will be made later.
