Marie Elizabeth "Liz" Watkins, 91, of Burlington, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Burlington Care Center. Born October 14, 1918, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles Roy and Marie Margaret Knopp Huston. On April 15, 1939, she married Virgil Dwight Watkins in Kahoka, MO. Mrs. Watkins worked at Woolworth's for 15 years, and also at Camp's Laundry. She was a homemaker. She attended First Assembly of God Church in Burlington. She served on the Parent Teacher Association. She enjoyed animals, especially cats, sewing, embroidery, and assembling and viewing photo albums. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sharon K. Ives and Celia M. Anderson, both of Burlington; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Watkins will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Revs. Rick Rustad and Chris Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for Des Moines County Humane Society and Burlington Care Center Hospice.
