Charles Eugene Waterhouse, 85, 1701 S. 12th, retired civil engineer, died Thursday morning in Burlington hospital following a brief illness. He was taken to the hospital from his home by police ambulance shortly before 2 a.m. A native of Oakville, Waterhouse had served a s Des Moines county supervisor and was a former member of the Burlington school board. One of the 16 founders of Triangle, a fraternity of engineers, he helped the group celebrate its golden anniversary convention in Champaign-Urbana, Ill., in the fall of 1957. Waterhouse received two bachelor's degrees from the University of Illinois, an AB in 1907 and a BS in 1908. Waterhouse was a member of Grace Methodist church and of numerous Masonic orders, including the Malta lodge, Zerubbabel Council 22, R & SM, St. Omar Commandery 15 and Knights Templar. He was born on Sept. 28, 1874, the son of Taylor and Loise Harkelroad Waterhouse and was married to Mildred Elliott on June 30, 1910. Surviving are his wife; two children, Mary and Taylor Waterhouse, both of Denver, Colo., and one grandchild. His parents and a brother are dead. The body is at Prugh's chapel.
