Obituary
Edward C. Boeck, one of Burlington’s promising younger businessmen, an untiring worker, and a man who was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, passed away at 12:05 yesterday afternoon, death being due to an apoplectic stroke. He had not been in perfect health of late, but no serious trouble was apprehended, and he kept busy as usual. He was in his store, No. 565 South Main Street yesterday when the attack seized him. He was taken to Burlington Hospital at 10 o’clock but there it was soon apparent that nothing could be done to restore the patient.
Edward Charles Boeck was born in Burlington, July 14, 1871, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Boeck. He was given a good education in the public schools and learned the meat business under his father, who was one of the pioneers of the city in that branch. Twenty-one years ago Ed. C. Boeck established himself in business on South Main Street. He was industrious, he understood his business, he gave his customers the square deal and he was pleasant and courteous ever, and he built up and held a good trade.
He is survived by the widow, formerly Miss Carrie Howe, of this city, and two sons, George and Albert, the parents, and the following brothers, and sisters: George Boeck, Jr., who is making his home in San Antonio, Texas; Al. Boeck, Mrs. Ed. C. Gnahn and Mrs. Lou Wallbridge here. Many friends will honor his memory.
Deceased was a member of the Elks, the Eagles, and the Red Men, where he will be missed everywhere that he was known. Friends can view the remains at the home of George Boeck, No. 707 North Third Street, this afternoon (Thursday), between the hours of 4 and 6 pm.
Private funeral services will be held from the home of the parents, Mrs. and Mrs. George Boeck, No. 707 North Third at 4 p.m. Friday. The interment in Aspen Grove will also be private.
