Obituary
Albert Boeck, 82, of 702 N. Fourth, last of five children born to George and Hannah Roth Boeck, pioneer Burlington residents, died Sunday. He had been in failing health the past several years but was able to go on a fishing trip to Minnesota in May. On his return July 1 he became ill and his condition became steadily worse.
He was born Feb. 7, 1874, in Burlington, and after completion of his education was employed by his father, who owned a packing house for many years. While still a young man, Boeck opened a retail meat market adjacent to Ihrer’s grocery store and continued active until his retirement nearly 30 years ago.
He was the oldest member of the Carthage Lake fishing and hunting club and was always an ardent fisherman and hunter. He was also a charter member of the Eagles Lodge and its past president. He was a charter member of the Moose Lodge.
For the past 25 years, he had lived with his nephew, Edward B. Gnahn. In addition to Gnahn, he is survived by three other nephews, Lewis B. Wallbridge, George, and Albert Boeck, all of Burlington, and a niece, Mrs. Charlotte Smith, daughter of his brother George. She is the wife of Lt. Col. EH Smith who is currently stationed at Keesler AFB near Bioxi, Miss. There are also a number of grandnephews and nieces.
Services will be held at Prugh’s chapel Wednesday at 3:30 pm. The Rev. Russell Jay will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 pm.
