Mrs. Opal Fern Clauz, 81, of Burlington, died at 7:52 a.m. Monday, September 6, 2010, at Great River Hospice House. Born February 4, 1929, in Newton, MO, she was the daughter of Burton and Della Opal Miller Long. In 1947 she married Charles Bartimus, and he preceded her in death. On October 13, 1973, she married Louis J. Clauz in Burlington. He preceded her in death on October 20th, 1997. She graduated valedictorian from Milan High School Class of 1945 in Milan, Missouri. Mrs. Clauz worked for Murray Ironworks, Mississippi Valley Bank in Burlington, and then Valley Bank in Reno, Nev. from 1974 to 1976, before retiring and moving back to Burlington. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, word search puzzles, watching her favorite soap operas, and spending time with her family. Survivors include one daughter, Vickie (Bill) Malcorn of Mediapolis; one son, Craig (Pam) Bartimus of Burlington; two granddaughters, Trisha (John) Hager and Tonya (Chad) Wissinger, both of Burlington; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; one sister, Phyllis (Jug) Fulks of Milan, MO; numerous nieces and nephews. Her husbands, parents, and one sister, Mary Cleo Chiatovich, preceded her in death. The funeral service for Mrs. Opal Fern Clauz will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 8th, in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Langner officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
