Mrs. Loretta Wardank, one of the early settlers in Illinois, passed away in Chicago, Friday. Loretta Richards, daughter of Wm. Richards and Mary Pruner, both of revolutionary stock, was born May 16, 1811, in Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania, and spent her childhood in that city. When sixteen years of age she joined the M.E. church, and held a continuous membership in that denomination to the time of her death. In 1829 she was married to Samuel Wardan, now deceased. To them were born ten children, seven of whom survive their parents: Mrs. Isaac Mantanye, of Pittston, Pa.; Mrs. Ellen Wells, of Baldwin, Kansas; Mr. Samuel Wardan, of St. Louis, Missouri; Mr. W.H. Wardan, Mrs. J.A. Shafer and Mrs. Augusta White, of this city, and Mrs. Cuthbert MacArthur, of Chicago. In 1853 Mr. and Mrs. Wardan moved to Kankakee, Illinois, then a tiny frontier hamlet. After the death of her husband, which occurred in 1856, Mrs. Wardan continued to reside in that city until 1888, when she removed to Chicago, to live with her youngest daughter, Mrs. MacArthur, in whose home she was cherished with the most loving care and tender solicitude.
