Obituary

William H. Wallace, a veteran of the Civil war, and for many years an engineer on the Burlington railroad, died at the St. Francis hospital at 1:55 o'clock yesterday morning after an illness of nearly a year. Mr.Wallace was born in Pennsylvania on November 2, 1844, and came to Burlington in 1888. He was married to Miss Samantha Lego in December, 1867. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, Malta Lodge No. 318, A.F. and A.M. and the G.A.R. He was a soldier in the Sixth Pennsylvania cavalry and the Tenth Pennsylvania infantry and was three times taken a prisoner during the Civil war. Surviving are one son, George P. Wallace of Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Mason and Miss Gertrude Wallace of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Frank Stults of Oquawka, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Marian Carskadden of Hartford, Conn., and one brother, James Wallace of Dayton, Ohio. Five grandchildren also survive Mr. Wallace. Funeral services will be held from the Burnett-Wallen mortuary at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and from the Masonic temple at 2:30. Interment will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
