Obituary
Charles Waldin, 87, retired jeweler and life resident of Burlington died at his home, 721 North Main street, yesterday morning after one week's illness. Mr. Waldin was born in this city Sept. 10. 1845 and was oen of a family of 15 children of Mr. and Mrs. Gus H. Waldin. He attended the Graff private school, the old North Hill school and later the old Baptist college, located on the present site of Burlington High School. His father operated a jewelry store on the north side of Jefferson street where Gemmel's milinery store is now located and he was associated in this business for a time. Then he went into business for himself and operated a jewelry store at the present site of Eisfeld's Boy's shop for many years, retiring 13 years ago. The site of Gus Waldin's store on Jefferson street was the location of the old Waldin home and it was there that Charles Waldin was born. Gus Waldin built the building which stands there. Charles Waldin was married in 1876 to Emma Biesenbruck of this city, who died eight years ago. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C.S. Friedman and Miss May Waldin, with whom he lived; four grandchildren, Donald, Warren, Alice, Emily and James Friedman, and one sister, Mrs. Caroline Hewitt, of Lincoln, Neb. He was a member of First Presbyterian church, the Hawkeye Natives association and the Modern Woodmen lodge, and was a charter member of Carthage Lake club. The body was taken to Unterkircher's funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 11 o'clock Thursday morning. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
