Raymond Edward Wagner, 86, of Burlington died at 2;50 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Nov. 16, 1918, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward Jacob and Elizabeth Lena Menne Wagner: On Aug. 8, 1946, he married Ruth Virginia McNeeley in Burlington. Mr. Wagner was an estimator for Noelke-Lyon. He was self employed as a general contractor from 1953 to 1973 and retired in 1985 as supervisor of plant operations at Burlington Medical Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a 1937 graduate of Burlington High School. He was an Army veteran, serving with the First Army in the European Theatre and taking part in five major battles. He was a member of American Legion and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed working with wood, crossword puzzles, gardening, yard work, sports and spending winters in Florida. Survivors include his wife; two daughter, Joyce Schlote of Silverdale, Wash., and Catherine Wagner-Aronson of Cooper City, Fla.; three sons. Thomas Wagner of Long Grove, James Wagner of Bloomington, Ind., and Daniel Wagner of Burlington; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one cousin. He was preceded in death by one sister. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in Purgh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends. The funeral for Mr. Wagner will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jack Edmisson and Tyrone Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 52, VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corp League and AMVets Post 29. A memorial has been established for Crapo Park and the American Society.
