Alf Frederick Berg was born June 29, 1885 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Paul Andrew and Ella Quall Berg. Alf moved with his parents to Burlington, Iowa in 1900. Alf had five brothers and sisters, Ella (Emil) Gerdom, Osker (died as an infant), Nellie (died as a child), Nellie Olga (Carl) Schoell, and Paul Oliver (Opal Dean).
He married Mary Elizabeth Rohlander on April 30, 1917. They had four children, Norman (Ruth Askegaard), John (Helen Smith), Mary (John Koenig)and Doris (Robert Brooks).
Due his young age, Alf was buried with his parents in Burlington, Iowa.
Alf Berg, 48, former resident of Burlington, died this morning in a hospital in Minneapolis, Miss., where he underwent an operation, according to word received by relatives here. Mr. Ber was born in Sioux City, Ia., but came here as a boy with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Berg. He was married here to Mayme Rohleder of Burlington, who with four children survives him. He was a machinist at the West Burlington shops for a number of years but ten years ago moved to Grasston, Minn., where he has since been living on a farm.
In addition to his widow and children he is survived by his aged father, of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. EH Gerdom and Mrs. Carl Schoell of Burlington, and a brother Paul Berg, of Ottumwa. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.
The remains of Alf Berg, who passed away at Minneapolis, Minn., May 18, 1934, will arrive in Burlington Sunday morning and be taken to Prugh’s chapel.
There will be services at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock, with the cortege leaving the chapel at 3:45. Friends invited.
