Mr. Steven D. Parris, 64, of Burlington died at 3:25 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born June 12, 1951 in Davenport, he was the son of J.D. and Evelyn (Grosscup) Parris. On September 22, 1989 he married Janet Chubb. He was previously married to Ellen Bennett.
Mr. Parris worked in Accounts Receivable at Great River Medical Center for 10 years, was a business owner, and was a private investigator for nine years.
Mr. Parris was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church. Golfing was his passion and he loved to cook and bake from scratch. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing blackjack, shooting pool, playing darts, bowling, building remote control airplanes, and scuba diving. He also was a personal pilot, loved traveling, and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Parris of Burlington; three sons, Nathan (Stephannie) Parris of Aurora, IL, Luke (Sara) Parris of Urbandale and Matthew Parris of Burlington; one daughter, Sara Parris of Burlington; five grandchildren, Jonathan Parris, Lillian Parris and Elliot Parris all of Aurora and Jackson Parris and Henry Parris both of Urbandale; and one brother, Alan (MaryAnna) Parris of LeClaire.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 18th, at West Hill United Methodist Church.
The funeral service for Mr. Parris will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19th, at West Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Bracht-Wagner officiating.
Memorials have been established for West Hill United Methodist Church and Great River Hospice.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and will be accorded following the funeral service.
