Mrs. Hannah Young, wife of H.B. Young, Burlington's oldest practicing physician, died suddenly at her home, 1027 North Fourth street, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Her death was caused by heart trouble, the first symptoms coming early yesterday morning. Having recently returned from a trip to California, she had appeared to be in the best of health, her death coming as a sudden shock. She was 71 years old. Mrs.Young was known to hundreds of Burlington people and had been a resident of this city for forty-six years. Her chief characteristics were her devotion to her family and her gentle, retiring nature. She was born in North Hamtonshire, England, February 2, 1854. the daughter of Benjamin and Hannah Scarboro Parsons. Coming to this country with her parents in 1858, she grew to womanhood at Monmouth, Il. She attended the Rockford, Ill., college for girls and was married to Dr. Young at Monmouth on September 22, 1875. Mr. and Mrs. Young came to Burlington on December 26, 1879 and have since made their home here. For the past thirty years they have lived in the home on North Fourth street, where Mrs. Young passed away yesterday. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. C.H. Topping of Burlington, and Mrs. Jessie Gordon, a foster child, of Iowa City, who was a daughter of Mrs. Young;s sister. Mrs. Gordon's mother died when she was two weeks old and Mrs. Young had reared her. Mrs. Young also leaves one sister, Mrs. D. S. Hardin, of Monmouth, Il., and one brother, George W. Parsons of Los Angeles, Calif., and three grandchildren. Another daughter, Mrs. W.T. (Alice) Coleman, died on July 10, 1921. Mrs. Young never recovered from the shock and the strain of eight years of devoted nursing of this long time invalid daughter, She was a member of the Congregational church. Funeral services will probably be held from the home on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Dr. Naboth Osborne of the Congregational Church in charge. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
