Obituary
The funeral of David F. Sinclair was held from his late residence, 1001 South Sixth street, Thursday morning, August 21, at 9 o'clock, interment being in Aspen Grove. The house was filled with friends and neighbors who thus silently testified to their respect for the deceased. Besides Mrs. Sinclair, other relatives present were Rev. Wm. V. Whitten, and his daughter Miss Letta Whitten of Charles City Iowa; Mr. Wm. T. Reeve of Sioux City, iowa, and Mr. S.D. Reeve of Chicago. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Eugene Allen of the First M.E. church, who was assisted by Rev. Wm. V. Whitten. Dr. Allen made the address, which was based on the sentiment "Faithful onto death." He said that in whatever capacity Mr. Sinclair was engaged, he was faithful, whether it was in the army, or in the employ of the railway, or in his belief in God. The speaker also referred to the nine weeks vigil of Mrs. Sinclair, who watched over her husband with tender and incessant care. David F. Sinclair was born in the state of New York, May 31, 1838 and served in the civil wat as a member of a New York regiment. For more than forty years he was an active employe of the Burlilngton railroad,and continued in the service up to the time of his fatal illness. On September 20, 1875 he was united in marriage, at Kenosha, Wis., with Miss Loretta Reeves. Their home life was ideal. Mr. Sinclair was a modest, quiet man of few words but of deep feeling. His was a valuable and useful life. He and his wife attended the First M.E. church of which they were members. He was also connected with the Matthies Post of the G.A.R. and with Lodge No. 1 of the Masonic fraternity. Many of his soldier and lodge comrades were present at the services.
