Mabe S. Young, 90, of 630 N. Sixth, former Oak Street school principal, died at 10 p.m. Thursday after a short illness. Born Mar. 24, 1866, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Jane Stewart Young. She was a member of the First Methodist church and the PEO sisterhood. Surviving are a nephew, Newton M. Derby of Burlington; two nieces, Mrs. Charles Putnam of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Marian Smith of St. Louis, Mo. Services will be announced later from Prugh's chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery,. Miss Young taught in the grade schools of Burlington for many years, beginning in 1887. From 1931 until her retirement in 1936, she was principal of Oak Street school.
