After a long illness, Alma Wilhelmina Yewell, well know Burlington musical instructor, died late Thursday afternoon in St. Francis hospital, where she had been a patient for several weeks, suffering from a heart ailment. Mrs. Yewell was 64 years old and made her home at 314 South Garfield avenue. She was a lifelong resident of Burlington. Alma Bloomquist was born in Burlington May 4, 1863, and was the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Bloomquist, early residents of Burlington. She received her education in the public schools of this city and attended the Baptist college which was located on the site of the present high school. She began the study of music when eight years old and after completing her education here she studied in Chicago conservatories for six years and also taught music classes. She was married to Charles Wesley Huston, March 22, 1891, a local photographer, who passed away four years later. September 14, 1898, she was united in marriage with Solomon Yewell, a Boston journalist, and he preceded her in death 25 years ago. Mrs. Yewell has conducted music classes in Burlington for many years specializing in string instruments, and her hundreds of former pupils and friends will sincerely mourn her passing. In an obituary prepared by Mrs. Yewell before her death, the request was made that a mandolin orchestra accompany the organ at her funeral. No known relatives survive. The body was taken to Prugh's chapel and funeral services will be held probably Sunday with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery.
