Frances M. Zitner, 89, of Burlington, died at 5:03 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003. at Great River Medial Center's Kein Center. Born Feb. 13, 1914, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frank and Julia Huppert Schmidt. On Dec. 3, 1948, she married Bert R. Zitner in Burlington. He died July 2, 1988. Mrs. Zitner worked at J.S. Schramm's for 16 years as a salesperson. She also worked for Canteen Corp. where she lived in Milwaukee, Wis. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Survivors include four nieces, Joan Flores of Sunnyvale, Calif., Patricia Smith of Menlo Park, Calif., Judith Grondin of Camero Park, Calif., and Penny Woodland of Sacramento; three nephews, Paul Beckman of Sperry, John Beckman of Bloomington, Minn., and Matthew Beckman of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and several great and great great nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday. The funeral for Mrs. Zitner will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Bethany Lutheran Church.
