Obituary
Despondent over continued ill health and the critical illness of his sister, 72-year-old Emil H. Zimmer parked his car along a road about 1/2 mile from his home and killed himself. A retired machinist and a long-time resident of Burlington, Zimmer reportedly fastened a tube to the exhaust pipe and then turned on the motor and sat down in the car. Carbon monoxide gas was the cause of death. Zimmer had moved from Burlington to Illinois 2 1/2 years ago and last August moved into the tenant house on the Herbert Cisna farm, east of Gladstone. He was found by Mr. and Mrs. Cisna as they were returning from Burlington about midnight Friday. C.R. Mellor, Stronghurst, Henderson county coroner, investigated the case, expressed belief the death was suicide. Zimmer's sister, Mrs. Arthur Gilbert, is in Burlington hospital. He was born in Burlington, March 7, 1876, and had worked as a machinist in Chicago, Milwaukee, Wis., and Moline, Ill., before returning to Burlington. He was in the garage business here. On Sept..12, 1900, he married Minnie Gingrich in Burlington. His wife and sister, Mrs. Gilbert, survive. A brother and a daughter are dead. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Burnett Wallen funeral home. Burial will be in Burlington.
